Jermaine Jenas says Manchester United must appoint Pep Guardiola as their next manager.

Louis van Gaal is facing a battle to salvage his United career after a six-game winless run in all competitions since a 2-1 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road on 21 November.

Guardiola is the man who will provide a style of football that United fans will love

Guardiola has been linked with Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and United after the Spanish coach confirmed that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jenas explained why the 20-time English champions need to go all out to appoint the three-time Champions League-winning manager as Van Gaal’s successor.

“If I was at Man Utd, I’d be doing whatever it took to make sure the club got Pep Guardiola as their manager for next season,” Jenas told Yahoo Sport.

“Jose Mourinho may seem like the obvious choice, but Guardiola is the man who will provide a style of football that United fans will love.

“Mourinho would bring something else to the table, but Guardiola is a better fit for the club.”

The Red Devils lost three successive Premier League games against Bournemouth, Norwich City and Stoke City ahead of the visit of Chelsea.
