Rio Ferdinand says Manchester United are facing a must-win game against Chelsea on Monday evening

Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United that they are facing a must-win game against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

The Red Devils have lost their last three Premier League games following defeats by promoted sides Bournemouth and Norwich City before their Boxing Day humiliation at Stoke City.

Chelsea scored a late equaliser to deny Watford a famous victory in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge which left the Blues just two points above the relegation zone.

Ferdinand, who called time on his United career in 2013 after a distinguished 11 years at Old Trafford, wants the Red Devils to give everything against the Blues this evening.

Ferdinand wrote on his Instagram page: “Looking forward to being back at OT today for @manchesterunited game against Chelsea!! Huge win needed.. Shackles off! #mufc 🔴⚽️”

United are in sixth place and nine points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City.

The Red Devils have failed to win their last seven games in all competitions since a 2-1 win against Watford on 21 November.
