Eden Hazard will miss Chelsea’s next two games due to injury, Guus Hiddink confirmed on Friday as he delivered the latest team news ahead of the Blues’ clash with Scunthorpe in the FA Cup.

The Belgium playmaker had only just returned from a hip problem when he suffered a groin injury early on during the 3-0 win at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Chelsea are set to host Scunthorpe on Sunday as they look to book their place in the fourth round of the cup competition.

Hazard, who won the PFA player of the year award last season, will miss Sunday’s game and will also sit out the Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night.

Speaking at a news conference at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon, Hiddink was quizzed about Hazard’s fitness and a possible return date for the Belgian.

Hiddink told the gathered media: “Hazard will not make midweek [against West Brom]. We must be careful because a player must not fall again after twice being injured in a physical trap. This time we must take a little bit more time.

“He was fit to play but he got an unfortunate slip in the Crystal Palace game. We must be careful to maybe [bring him back] one game or half a game later than one or half a game too early.”
