Liverpool have been told that a £53m bid would secure the services of Alex Teixeira before Monday’s transfer deadline, according to reports.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder in recent days as the January transfer window approaches its conclusion.

The player himself this week spoke out about his desire to secure a transfer to the Merseyside outfit this month.

Liverpool are reported to have already tabled a bid for the attacker but Shakhtar are understood to have rejected their latest approach, with his current club keen to keep hold of the player until the summer.

Now, Metro quotes Shakhtar’s general director Sergiy Palkin as having said that the Ukrainian club would be willing to let Teixeira leave if a bid of £53m was made.

BBC Sport reports that Liverpool have made a bid of £24.5m for the Brazilian.
