Joe Allen sent Liverpool through to the League Cup final after a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Stoke City at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Potters levelled the tie on aggregate after Marko Arnautovic scored on the stroke of half-time despite Liverpool’s protestations that the Stoke forward was offside.

Emre Can had a couple of long-range attempts on Jack Butland’s goal but Liverpool failed to register a shot on target in 90 minutes.

The sides couldn’t be separated in extra time but Peter Crouch, Emre Can and Marc Muniesa missed their penalties to allow Allen to covert the winning spot-kick.
