Alan Shearer says Tottenham Hotspur’s ability to push their full-backs forward is proving a key factor in their Premier League title push.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side eased to a 1-0 victory over Watford on Saturday afternoon after right-back Kieran Trippier scored the north London side’s winner at White Hart Lane.

The former Burnley defender and Wales international Ben Davies has been in impressive form for Spurs in recent weeks, whilst Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have also performed well when picked ahead of their full-back rivals.

Former Newcastle United striker Shearer believes Pochettino’s full-backs are proving vital in Tottenham’s impressive Premier League run.

“A big part of their game is the full-backs pushing forward,” Shearer told BBC Sport. “They’ve got the freedom to get up front and do their stuff.

“It’s a feature of Tottenham’s play now. They can do it because they’ve got two centre-halves and Eric Dier.”

The north London outfit are in second place and five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City.

Tottenham make the trip to Premier League title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in their next game on Sunday afternoon.
