Ander Herrera is backing Arsenal to give Barcelona a run for their money in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday night.

The Gunners welcome the La Liga giants to Emirates Stadium as they look to return to winning ways following their frustrating goalless draw with Hull City on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal are the heavy underdogs to progress to the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club for the first time since 2010.

And although Manchester United midfielder Herrera admits that Barcelona are the clear favourites to progress, he is expecting to see a “beautiful” match at The Emirates on Tuesday night.

Herrera is quoted as saying by Metro: “I see Barça as superiors. Not much superiors, but superiors at the end of the day. It will be a beautiful knockout game.

“I believe it will be equal. Barça alternate possession stages with a game without the ball.

“And Arsenal dominate the game very much, but they also attack quickly, with Alexis, Walcott and Oxlade. That’s why it’s going to be a beautiful match.”

Herrera and his Manchester United team-mates will take on the Gunners at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
