Gilberto Silva is confident that Arsenal have a chance of beating Barcelona to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The north London side are preparing to welcome the Spanish champions to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as they bid to reach the last eight of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 2010.

Arsenal are regarded as the heavy underdogs heading into the first leg in north London, with Barcelona among the favourites to win the Champions League this season.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto believes that the Gunners do have a realistic chance of knocking out the Catalan side and reaching the quarter-finals.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport, Gilberto said: “Arsenal will have to work very hard to stop them as they are doing brilliantly this season.

“Neymar is getting better game by game and the way Barcelona play is unbelievable.

“For sure when you play a team like this you cannot allow yourself to make a single mistake. This is a game everybody wants to play in and Arsenal must be ready.

“They have a great chance to beat them and make the final again. It’s been a long time now. If they want to make the final there’s no other way. Barcelona lose sometimes. Not very often but it happens.”

Arsenal warmed up for Tuesday’s game with a frustrating goalless draw at home to Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Gunners, who are third in the Premier League, travel to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
