Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil was sick during the week and he opted to leave the playmaker out of Arsenal’s goalless draw with Hull City on Saturday as a precaution.

The Germany international was not named in the matchday squad as the north London side were held to a frustrating stalemate by the Tigers in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Ozil has been a regular fixture in the north London side’s first-team this season but Wenger opted not to risk him for the cup clash.

And speaking at his post-match news conference, Wenger explained why he opted to leave Ozil, as well as Aaron Ramsey, out against Steve Bruce’s side.

Wenger told his Arsenal news conference after Saturday’s game: “Mesut Ozil was a bit sick over the week, so I decided to leave him out completely.

“Ramsey has played many games, so that’s why I kept him out.”
