Arsene Wenger believes that Arsenal must show exceptional solidarity when they take on Barcelona in their crunch Champions League clash on Tuesday night.

The Gunners head into the game on the back of their disappointing goalless draw with Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.

We’ll need great solidarity because we’ll need to defend well

Arsenal have been knocked out at the last 16 stage of Europe’s elite club competition for the last five seasons and the north London side are the underdogs heading into their clash with the Spanish champions.

Wenger accepts that the Spanish side will be the heavy favourites to claim victory at The Emirates on Tuesday night, but the Arsenal boss is confident that his Arsenal team have what it takes to outwit the visitors.

Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday, Wenger said: “Of course, it’s an exciting game. We were the favourites today [against Hull] but we won’t be on Tuesday night.

“On Tuesday night, we’ll need great solidarity because we’ll need to defend well, and make the maximum of our possession, which we didn’t do today.”

He added: “Of course we’ll try to win this game.”
