Guus Hiddink has publicly admitted that Eden Hazard could leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window – but has advised the playmaker to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks following Chelsea’s disappointing season.

Hazard scored his first goal of the campaign from the penalty spot as the Blues beat MK Dons 5-1 in the FA Cup to set up a fifth-round clash with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgium international has been reported to be a target for Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.

Hiddink says that it will be the west London club who have the final say on Hazard’s future, but believes that the playmaker could develop into a Chelsea great were he to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Asked if Chelsea could sell Hazard in the summer, Hiddink told the Daily Star: “It’s not up to me – it’s up to the club.

“My advice to Eden is he could be a Chelsea great for years to come – but he could leave in the summer.

“He’s of big value to Chelsea – a very important player, a nice player. But he’s been struggling with injuries for a while now.

“Hopefully he is coming back to where he was before. He needs training and match fitness and you get that by playing games.

“If he is fit, then he will be happy to play. He’s happy to play in training. He is eager to perform but the physical fitness must be there.”
