The Blues head into the game looking to return to winning ways after they were forced to come from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in west London last weekend.
The west London side have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League all season and are currently languishing in 13th place in the table heading into the final 13 games of the season.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson is tipping Chelsea to claim a straightforward victory over the Magpies in front of their home fans on Saturday.
Lawrenson told BBC Sport: “Chelsea’s interim boss Guus Hiddink is now unbeaten in 10 games since taking charge before Christmas and I do not see that record as being in danger here.
“Hiddink has steadied the ship but he has not found a miracle cure to the problems he inherited.
“The Blues are just not as good as they were last season in every area, but they will still be too strong for Newcastle.”
Chelsea will have one eye on their Champions League last-16 first-leg clash with Paris Saint-Germain next week as they bid to take a step towards reaching the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
