The 22-year-old scored in West Brom’s 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the Hawthorns Stadium on Saturday evening.
Berahino attempted to force a move away from the Baggies last summer amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur, however, the striker failed to secure a transfer.
The England Under-21 has been out-of-favour for most of the season under Tony Pulis, although the West Brom manager has recently reinstated the controversial striker.
Wales manager Coleman explained why he believes the Spurs target has the attributes to play for Roy Hodgson’s England side.
“I met him last week and he’s a really nice boy,” Coleman told Sky Sports.
“He has the talent and when his mentality is right he is a fantastic player and a player for England in the future.
“He is exciting, but having talent is not enough, you need to have the mentality to play at the top level. I think what happened last summer he let it affect him and get on top of him.”
Berahino has scored four goals in 22 Premier League games for West Brom so far this season.
However, the Tottenham target has only started 10 of his 22 top-flight appearances in the 2015/16 campaign.
West Brom make the trip to leaders Leicester City on Tuesday night.
