David Ginola has urged Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy to secure the long-term future of Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs have emerged as candidates to win the Premier League title after the north London side moved to within two points of leaders Leicester City thanks to their 2-1 win against rivals Manchester City last weekend.

The next five years are crucial for Spurs

Pochettino’s side have won their last five Premier League games after victories over Sunderland, Norwich City, Watford, Crystal Palace and Manuel Pellegrini’s City over the past few weeks.

Tottenham also secured a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night.

Former Spurs midfielder Ginola wants Levy to offer Pochettino a new long-term contract ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup fifth-round clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

“I think Daniel Levy is, even if he does not smile much in the stands, I think he is very clever,” Ginola told Sky Sports.

“What he is doing at Spurs right now, what he must do, is secure Mauricio Pochettino’s job for the next five years.

“The next five years are crucial for Spurs.

“Keeping the manager will show stability. A football club needs stability to bring success. You can’t win trophies year-in year-out if you change managers every two years.

“This is why I think Daniel Levy will do so because he can see the strategy behind that.”

The north London outfit welcome struggling Swansea City in their next Premier League game at White Hart Lane on Sunday 28 February.
