Harry Redknapp has claimed that John Terry could eventually take charge of Chelsea in the future once he hangs up his playing boots for good.

The former England defender announced on Sunday that he is set to leave the west London club at the end of the season because Chelsea have not offered him a new contract.

Chelsea later released a statement insisting that the club could still renew the veteran defender’s contract for another season.

Speculation about where Terry could be playing his football next season has inevitably been gathering pace in the wake of his announcement at the weekend.

But former Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers boss Redknapp feels that Terry could well end up in charge of Chelsea one day.

Redknapp told talkSPORT: I don’t see why John couldn’t [be a manager].

“Given the opportunity and with the right people around him, someone like Ray Wilkins to work alongside him and help him through his first managerial job.

“I don’t see why he couldn’t manage Chelsea, personally.”
