The England international’s situation at Anfield has been a source of uncertainty in recent weeks following his latest spell on the sidelines at the Merseyside club.
Sturridge has seen his first-team opportunities at Anfield significantly restricted in recent months due to injury but has returned to action in the build-up to Sunday’s League Cup final clash with Manchester City at Wembley.
The striker emphatically quashed suggestions that he could be on his way out of Liverpool when speaking to the media in recent days.
However, former Liverpool defender Carragher admits that he did not understand why Sturridge did not use his social media accounts to end the transfer talk sooner.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “Another thing that has bothered fans are the stories about him wanting to leave.
“He said on Wednesday that his future was at Liverpool but, if there was no substance to the speculation, why did he not go on social media to provide some reassurance?
“If he was to leave, who would Liverpool get to replace him? Jurgen Klopp also has a problem here. How many games can he afford to be without him? If I was manager and could guarantee Daniel would be available for 50 per cent of matches, I would keep him no matter what. He is that good.”
Liverpool head into Sunday’s clash with City on the back of their 1-0 win over Augsburg in the Europa League.
