John Barnes says Liverpool shouldn’t sell Daniel Sturridge in the summer transfer window.

The Reds forward has been linked with a potential move to high-flying West Ham United at the end of the season after another campaign disrupted by a string of injuries.

Sturridge scored upon his return to the Liverpool starting line-up on Valentine’s Day as the Merseyside outfit were 6-0 winners at Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Former Liverpool skipper Barnes believes it would be a mistake to sell the 26-year-old striker, who confirmed his desire to remain at the club at his media conference on Wednesday.

“Sturridge was huge in Liverpool’s 6-0 win over Villa and he scored and you can see how important he is,” Barnes told Daily Express.

“He’s back in the Liverpool team and he seems to be fit. As long as we can keep him fit then I don’t want to see Sturridge go.

“I don’t think he wants to go and the club definitely don’t want him to go.”

Sturridge moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from reigning Premier League champions Chelsea in January 2013.

The Reds striker has scored a respectable 45 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.
