Nigel Winterburn believes Petr Cech has earned the trust of his Arsenal team-mates ahead of Sunday’s game at Manchester United.

The Gunners signed the Czech Republic international in an £11m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Cech has already established himself as a vital part of the Arsenal defence and has helped improve the Gunners’s record this term.

Former Arsenal defender Winterburn, who played with Gunners legend David Seaman during his career, explained the effect a top-class goalkeeper has on the defence.

“Well, you’ve got a really high quality goalkeeper played at a very high level that is used to winning things, so when you’ve got someone like that in your team you tend to trust the goalkeeper a lot,” said Play With A Legend ambassador Winterburn.

Cech was beaten for the first time by Barcelona forward Lionel Messi in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Argentina international finished from close range with Cech out of position for the opener in the 71st minute.
