Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur will win the Premier League if they focus their energy on the title race.

The north London side are in Florence ahead of the first leg of their Europa League last-32 clash against Serie A side Fiorentina on Thursday.

If Spurs play for everything, it is nailed on impossible they can’t do it

Paul Merson

Tottenham, who are in second place in the Premier League and five points behind leaders Leicester City, host Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Fiorentina, former Arsenal midfielder Merson explained why he is worried about Spurs in the title race.

“The big worry is the best team at the moment is Tottenham Hotspur. Personally, I make them favourites,” Merson said.

Spurs were 2-1 winners against title rivals Manchester City on Sunday thanks to Christian Eriksen’s dramatic winner at The Etihad.

Merson believes Pochettino and his coaching staff will have sat down after the victory and addressed their targets for the remainder of the season.

“Sooner or later, they’ve got to sit down after the big win at The Etihad, and really make their mind up what they’re going to do,” Merson added.

“Are Spurs going to go for the Premier League or try and play for everything? If they play for everything, it is nailed on impossible they can’t do it.

Enhanced odds: Get 16/1 on Man Utd and Tottenham to win on Thursday night

“If they do, I think they’re favourites. They’ve been absolutely outstanding.”
