Paul Merson has poured cold water on talk of Arsenal winning the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners injected life into the title bid on Sunday afternoon after Danny Welbeck netted a late winner to seal a 2-1 victory over 10-man Leicester City.

Arsenal’s dramatic win at the Emirates Stadium moved Arsene Wenger’s side to within two points of surprise Premier League leaders Leicester with 12 games remaining.

While the Gunners have plenty of know-how when it comes to securing a top-four finish, Merson is unsure whether Arsenal have the necessary experience to win the title.

“I don’t know if Arsenal have the experience. They’ve been there enough times and melted. Sometimes that can work either way,” Merson told Sky Sports.

Petr Cech and Danny Welbeck are the only members of Wenger’s squad that have previously won the Premier League title.

Arsenal host Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday in a repeat of the 2014 final.
