Paul Merson feels that Hector Bellerin is the perfect man to mark Jamie Vardy on Sunday

Paul Merson has told Hector Bellerin that he should man-mark Jamie Vardy in Arsenal’s crunch clash with Leicester City on Sunday.

Vardy has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season and has already scored 18 goals for the Foxes to help them lead the way at the top of the Premier League table.

The striker’s pace has caused top-flight defenders problems all season and will be the Foxes’ danger-man against the Gunners on Sunday.

However, former Arsenal man Merson feels that Bellerin has the necessary pace to keep tabs on the striker and believes the right-back should be handed that job on Sunday.

Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Arsenal should man mark Jamie Vardy with Hector Bellerin tomorrow.

“If they don’t do something to stop Leicester then they will hit Vardy on the break and he will be too quick for Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny.

I would put Bellerin on him man for man because he’s got the pace to stay with him. Riyad Mahrez is a good player but his strength is in providing for Vardy.

“Take that away and you can stop them.”

Arsenal, who finished third last term, head into the game in third place in the Premier League table and knowing that a victory would leave them two points off top spot heading into the final 12 matches of the season.
