Paul Scholes is convinced that Manchester United are still in with a chance of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils are preparing to host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as they look to return to winning ways in the top flight after their 2-1 loss to Sunderland in their most recent outing.

They’ve still got a chance of coming fourth, I wouldn’t rule that out yet

United booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night thanks to a thumping 5-1 win over Midtjylland at Old Trafford as they followed up their FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town with an impressive victory.

Louis van Gaal’s side are currently fifth in the Premier League table and six points adrift of the top four heading into the final 12 games of the season.

It has been suggested that winning the Europa League may be United’s best chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

But Scholes has refused to rule United out of the race for a top-four finish.

Speaking on BT Sport on Thursday, Scholes said: “They’ve still got a chance of coming fourth, I wouldn’t rule that out yet.

“OK, they’re six points behind fourth place but they still have a chance for that.

“This tournament [the Europa League] is a chance as well but there are some really good teams left in it so it is not going to be easy.”
