Gabriel Paulista has returned to his native Brazil in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of Arsenal v Barcelona

Gabriel Paulista has returned to his old club Vitoria for treatment on his hamstring injury as the defender races to prove his fitness in time for Arsenal’s crunch Champions League clash with Barcelona next week.

The defender sat out Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Leicester City at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon due to a minor hamstring problem and has travelled back to his native Brazil for treatment, according to journalist Paulo Freitas.

Gabriel had started Arsenal’s previous league game at Bournemouth alongside Laurent Koscielny in the heart of Arsenal’s defence but Per Mertesacker was restored to the line-up for Sunday’s clash with the Foxes.

It it appears that Gabriel is aiming to prove his fitness in time for Arsenal’s showdown with Barcelona at Emirates Stadium next Tuesday.

Before their clash with Barca, Arsenal will look to book their place in the sixth round of the FA Cup by beating Hull City at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
