Martin Skrtel has expressed his delight to return to first-team training as Liverpool geared up for their clash against Augsburg on Thursday night.

The Reds defender has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since December and the Slovakia international suffered a fresh setback in his rehabilitation earlier this month.

However, Skrtel joined his Liverpool team-mates in their final training session ahead of the second leg of their Europa League last-32 clash at Anfield on Thursday night.

And the 31-year-old defender took to Instagram to give Liverpool supporters an update on his fitness status.

Skrtel wrote: “Glad to be back on the pitch with the team!it was a loooong time…💪🏼👍🏻 #m37s #ynwa #liverpoolfc #slovakia”

The Liverpool defender sparked plenty of commentary on social media after the former Zenit St Petersburg was photographed sporting hair.

Liverpool played out a goalless draw with Augsburg in the first leg of their Europa League clash in Germany last week.
