Ray Wilkins says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shouldn’t be judged until next season.

The Reds failed to beat Augsburg in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night after a goalless draw in Germany.

Klopp was appointed as Liverpool manager in October after the 18-time English champions sacked Brendan Rodgers following the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has only won seven of his 18 Premier League games in charge of the 18-time English champions.

Speaking to BT Sport on Sunday, Wilkins defended Klopp’s record at the Merseyside outfit since taking over at Anfield.

“We can judge Jurgen next year,” Wilkin said.

“When he has had a chance to bring in the players that he wants to bring to the club. Then we can judge their performances.

“This Liverpool team is quite average.”

Liverpool aren’t in action in the FA Cup this weekend after a 2-1 loss to West Ham United at Upton Cup in their fifth-round replay earlier this month.
