Rio Ferdinand has taken to social media to reveal his surprise at seeing Manchester United’s youngsters shine through under Louis van Gaal after their 3-2 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford scored twice on his Premier League debut as the teenager continued his fine form following his brace in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Injuries have also forced Van Gaal to call on the likes of 18-year-old Timothy Fosu-Mensah and fellow youngster James Weir in recent games.

And former United defender Ferdinand is clearly happy about how some of the Red Devils’ younger players are being given a chance.

Ferdinand tweeted on Sunday afternoon:

Sunday’s win left United in fifth place in the Premier League table and three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City heading into the final 11 games of the season.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are third and five points adrift of leaders Leicester City ahead of their clash with Swansea on Wednesday night.
