Ryan Mason has expressed his pride at captaining Tottenham Hotspur after a 1-1 draw with Fiorentina in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie on Thursday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side edged into a first half lead on Thursday night thanks to Nacer Chadli’s emphatic penalty after full-back Ben Davies was fouled in the area.

However, the Serie A side levelled in the 59th minute when Federico Bernardeschi’s deflected shot beat Spurs goalkeeper Michel Vorm in Florence.

Mason, who was named captain in the absence of Hugo Lloris, took to Twitter after the stalemate to reflect on a special evening for the Tottenham youth graduate.

Spurs face Fiorentina in the second leg of their Europa League tie at White Hart Lane next week.

The north London side are in second place in the Premier League table and just two points behind leaders Leicester City.
