The Blues head into their trip to St Mary’s looking to build on their impressive 5-1 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round last weekend.
Chelsea have shown significant signs of improvement since Guus Hiddink’s appointment as interim boss back in December.
The west London side have only lost one game in all competitions – their 2-1 defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League – and have produced a string of improved displays.
Southampton thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at St Mary’s back on Boxing Day – and former Manchester United and Liverpool striker Owen feels that Saturday’s encounter will be an open game.
Writing in his column for Bet Victor, Owen said: “A cracking game in prospect with both sides in excellent form; the Saints haven’t conceded in over 550 minutes of Premier League football, while the Blues are unbeaten in their last ten!
“The hosts might lose their proud current defensive record as I expect to see goals at St Mary’s.”
Chelsea are currently 12th in the Premier League table and 15 points adrift of the top four heading into the final 12 games of the season.
