Steve McManaman has explained why Tottenham Hotspur must win the Europa League or the Premier League this season.

The north London set up a Europa League last-16 meeting with favourites Borussia Dortmund thanks to a 4-1 aggregate win against Fiorentina on Thursday night.

Tottenham suffered a blow in the FA Cup last weekend after a surprise 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fifth round at White Hart Lane.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side can extend their winning Premier League run to six games with victory over Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.

Former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder McManaman explained why he believes Spurs need to cap a great season with some silverware.

“He needs to win something,” McManaman told BT Sport. “Dortmund is a big tie. But of course he does need to win something.

“Tottenham are in an amazing position.”

Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Leicester City.
