Andy Gray looks ahead to Manchester United's trip to Sunderland on Saturday lunchtime

Andy Gray is backing Manchester United to snatch a 1-0 victory when they travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.

The Red Devils head to the Stadium of Light looking to return to winning ways after the disappointment of conceding a stoppage-time equaliser at Stamford Bridge to draw 1-1 with Chelsea last weekend.

Louis van Gaal’s side have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League all season and have only won three of their last 10 top-flight games heading into this weekend’s clash.

However, former Everton man Gray is tipping United to have too much for the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light as they bid to reignite their push for a top-four finish.

Writing in his blog for Paddy Power, Gray said: “Sunderland have played quite well over the last couple of games. Their 2-2 draw against Liverpool was more a result of Liverpool’s failings but they still got the draw. Before that was a narrow defeat against Man City at home.

“I feel this weekend will be close but no cigar again for big Sam. United are so disjointed at the moment, they’ve only won three from their last 12 league games. The defence has been strong and it will be again. Look to Jesse Lingard to open the scoring.”

United are currently fifth in the Premier League table and six points behind bitter local rivals Manchester City heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
