The Red Devils head into the game looking to return to winning ways after they conceded a late equaliser to draw at Chelsea last weekend.
Louis van Gaal’s men have struggled to find consistent form all season in the Premier League and currently find themselves in fifth place in the table, six points adrift of the top four heading into the final 13 games of the campaign.
And former Liverpool star Barnes believes that the Red Devils are likely to struggle against the Black Cats on Saturday lunchtime.
Barnes wrote in his column for Titanbet: “Sunderland’s comeback at Liverpool will fill them with confidence.
“They weren’t good at Anfield, but results breed belief and at home I think they can get something against Man United. Goal-scorers – Jermain Defoe and Wayne Rooney.”
United, who take on Shrewsbury in the fifth round of the FA Cup later this month, finished fourth in Van Gaal’s first campaign in charge last term but the Red Devils were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage back in December.
