The north London outfit secured a 1-1 draw with the Serie A outfit in Florence last week thanks to Nacer Chadli’s penalty.
Mauricio Pochettino is obviously keen on winning this competition
Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a setback at the weekend after Crystal Palace were surprise 1-0 winners at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup fifth round.
However, former Arsenal playmaker Nicholas is confident Spurs can bounce back and book their place in the Europa League last-16 draw.
“I thought it was strange to see Spurs play such a strong team in the first leg because their results have been poor after Europa League trips and the outcome was their defeat to Crystal Palace,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.
“Mauricio Pochettino is obviously keen on winning this competition, but what I would have said that this is the one competition they didn’t need to go far in. Unlike Liverpool and United, they don’t need to win it for a Champions League place because they’re going to be in the top four.
“All these games are coming thick and fast now and I think they’ll put out another strong side, go out to win it in the first half and, even though Fiorentina are a good side, I expect Spurs to come through here.”
Spurs are unbeaten in eight European home games (W6 D2) since a 3-1 loss to SL Benfica in the 2013/14 Europa League round of 16.
Fiorentina are unbeaten away from home in Europe this season (W2 D1), scoring eight goals in those three contests.
Tottenham are through to the round of 32 for the fourth season in succession, with Fiorentina the only team to deny them a round of 16 place during that run.
