Liverpool returned to winning ways in convincing fashion as they thrashed bottom club Aston Villa 6-0 in the Premier League at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring, before James Milner’s free-kick crept in.

Emre Can fired in a shot, Divock Origi slotted home and Nathaniel Clyne bundled in to add to the Reds’ lead, before Kolo Toure headed in a sixth to add further gloss to the scoreline and heap misery on Villa in front of their home fans.

The result left Liverpool eighth in the Premier League table and nine points behind Manchester City, who host Tottenham at The Etihad on Sunday.

The victory was a welcome one for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have struggled to produce consistent from since the German’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October.

It was Liverpool second win in six Premier League attempts – and it inevitably prompted plenty of activity on Twitter after the final whistle.
