Alex Iwobi and Danny Welbeck could form a wonderful partnership for Arsenal, according to Garth Crooks.

The Arsenal pair produced dominant performances to help Arsene Wenger’s side end a three-game winless run in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Former Manchester United striker Welbeck broke the deadlock in the seventh minute after Arsenal managed to unlock Everton’s vulnerable defence.

Iwobi, who made his Premier League debut at Goodison Park, added a second before half-time for Wenger’s side to seal three vital points in the title race.

Former Tottenham forward Crooks was particularly impressed with the Nigeria international’s performance on his first appearance in the English top flight, likening Iwobi to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

“Iwobi’s week started in the Nou Camp and ended with his full Premier League debut and his first Premier League goal,” Crooks told BBC Sport.

“Not bad for a 19-year-old. The link-up play between himself and Danny Welbeck was fabulous at times and there looks to be the beginning of a wonderful partnership.

“What is even more remarkable is that it was only Iwobi’s 14th game for Arsenal in all competitions. To be showing that sort of confidence so early in your career speaks volumes for Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff.

“I think I’m going to keep my eye on this kid. Arsenal may have uncovered another Ian Wright.”

Iwobi made his Champions League debut as Arsenal lost 3-1 to holders Barcelona at Camp Nou last week.
