The Belgium international has expressed his desire to leave Goodison Park in search of first-team football after a disappointing 2015/16 season for the Toffees.
If I was a player of his standing and calibre, you want to take that next step so you can learn even more
Lukaku has scored an impressive 18 goals in 29 Premier League games but Roberto Martinez’s side are languishing in the bottom half of the table.
The 22-year-old underlined his desire to play in the Champions League during the international break following his £27m move to Everton from Chelsea in 2013.
And former Arsenal striker Wright says Lukaku’s desire to move to a top-four club is understandable given Everton’s poor performances.
“He is used to our league. He is used to playing against the league’s players,” Wright told the Sun’s Goals app.
“He would be playing with better players at Manchester United. Now, if I was a player of his standing and calibre, you want to take that next step so you can learn even more. You’ve got to want to be playing in the Champions League.”
Lukaku has scored 61 goals in 117 games in all competitions for Everton over the past two-and-a-half seasons.
The Toffees make the trip to Lukaku’s reported suitors United in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
