Ian Wright believes Eric Dier is more likely to become a future England captain than Dele Alli.

The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has earned rave reviews in recent months after his breakthrough season at White Hart Lane, whilst Alli was one of England’s best player in Saturday evening’s 3-2 victory over Germany in Berlin.

Alli’s Spurs team-mate Dier has been shuffled into a defensive midfield-role from centre-half over the course of the season and the 22-year-old has thrived as Tottenham’s anchor in midfield.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Dier has more leadership qualities on the pitch than Alli, adding that the 19-year-old should be left to roam free.

“Eric Dier looks more like a future captain,” Wright told Sun Goals app.

“He has a leader kind of quality to him. He just goes about his business. You see him pointing.

“He has more of a captain’s mentality than Dele will.”

Tottenham are in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind leaders Leicester City.

Spurs will travel to top-four chasing Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday night at Anfield.
