Jamie Carragher has revealed that he considers Thierry Henry to be the best striker he ever faced in his career.

The ex-Liverpool defender came up agains the former France international numerous times during his career and was famously left flat-footed by the striker during Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Liverpool at Highbury back in 2004.

Henry and Carragher now work alongside each other as pundits for Sky Sports, and the former Liverpool man admits that facing Henry was one of the toughest challenges of his career.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Carragher said: “The best centre forward I played against was Thierry Henry.

“I think he has been the best player to ever play in the Premier League. The Invincibles team were the best team I ever played against.

“He was the best player in Europe at that stage along with Ronaldinho, Kaka and Rivaldo. He was definitely in that group of players.”

Henry scored more than 170 Premier League goals for Arsenal between 1999 and 2007.

Arsenal are currently preparing for their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Watford at Emirates Stadium after they thrashed Hull 4-0 in Tuesday’s fifth-round replay.

The Gunners, who are third in the Premier League and eight points behind leaders Leicester City, are bidding to win the competition for the third season running.
