Jan Vertonghen delivers positive injury update ahead of Liverpool v Tottenham

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen reassures concerned team-mate that he will make a swift return to action after injury absence

Jan Vertonghen has reassured one concerned Belgium team-mate that he is nearing a return to full fitness after a frustrating spell for the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Vertonghen has been sidelined with a knee injury since January when the 27-year-old was forced off during Tottenham’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Belgium international had formed an impressive centre-half partnership with Tottenham’s summer signing and his compatriot Toby Alderweireld.

The former Ajax defender is thought to be close to a return to action ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Liverpool on Saturday evening.

And Vertonghen gave Roma’s Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan and Tottenham supporters some positive news on Twitter on Tuesday night.

Vertonghan has racked up 2,055 top-flight minutes so far this season after making 23 Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s title contenders.
