Mauricio Pochettino has been relying upon Kevin Wimmer in Vertonghen’s absence but the former Ajax defender is slowly edging towards a return to full fitness.
The 28-year-old took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to confirm that he has kicked his first ball in training since his injury ahead of Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Pochettino’s side host Dortmund in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie at White Hart Lane on Thursday night.
Spurs lost 3-0 to the Bundesliga side last week.
Vertonghen has made 23 appearances in the Premier League this season, forming an impressive centre-half partnership with Toby Alderweireld.
