Jan Vertonghen praised Tottenham Hotspur for getting their season back on track after Sunday’s 2-0 win at Aston Villa.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were winless in their last three games after defeats by West Ham and Borussia Dortmund as well as a 2-2 stalemate with title rivals Arsenal.

However, Spurs made the trip to the Premier League’s basement club, and Dele Alli and Harry Kane combined as the Tottenham striker broke the deadlock before half-time.

The England were at it again in the second half as Kane sealed three points for the Lilywhites and helped Spurs to move to within two points of leaders Leicester City in the table.

Injured Belgium defender Vertonghen heaped praise on his Tottenham team-mates for racking up a much-needed win in the title race.

Leicester can restore their five-point lead at the top of the table on Monday night when the Foxes host Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United side.
