Louis van Gaal says it is too early for Bastian Schweinsteiger to return to Manchester United’s starting line-up for their Europa League clash with Liverpool on Thursday night.

The midfielder has recently made his return to action from a knee injury and was a second-half substitute during United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

However, Van Gaal has confirmed that he will not risk starting the Germany international against the Reds, as his side look to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit to reach the quarter-finals of Europe’s second tier club competition.

The Manchester United boss went on to reveal that Ashley Young and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson will not feature in his squad against Liverpool, despite the duo being pictured in training on Wednesday after their respective injury lay-offs.

Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Will Keane and Wayne Rooney are still long-term absentees for the Red Devils.
