Jurgen Klopp didn’t sign a striker because of his goal celebration, Borussia Dortmund’s marketing director Carsten Cramer has revealed.

The 48-year-old has been an instant hit with the Liverpool supporters after the German took over the reins of the Anfield club from Brendan Rodgers in October.

Klopp missed out on his first trophy as Liverpool manager after a penalty shootout defeat by Manchester City in the League Cup final at Wembley last month.

Klopp is still waiting to land his first marquee signing as Liverpool manager after he signed teenager Marko Grujic and Steven Caulker in the January transfer window.

And the Liverpool boss appears to have very particular taste when it comes to signing strikers after Cramer revealed a conversation with Klopp during his time in charge of Dortmund.

“There is a story Jurgen told me about a striker he was interested in,” Cramer told Mirror Football. “He watched him in several videos and said: ‘This is a striker I want to sign.

“Then he saw him playing and he scored a goal. He was watching how he was celebrating his goal and said: ‘This is not a guy for Dortmund. He is celebrating for himself and not the club.”

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Dortmund striker Patrick Aubeyameng and Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski ahead of the summer transfer window.
