The Reds have an outside chance of finishing in the top four after Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
It is a big game, a big European game – probably the biggest game the Europa League has ever had
Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
The Merseyside have never faced United in Europe despite their long domestic rivalry.
The former Liverpool striker is hopeful that Klopp’s side can build on their three-game winning run and get one over their bitter rivals on Merseyside.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Fowler told Liverpool’s website.
“It’s a massive game. Both of us are not doing as well as we would have liked in the league but we’re on a little bit of a roll at the minute so hopefully we’ll take our current form and go into this game.
“I hope we come out victors because we deserve a good run. I’m sure United fans and people within the club will be saying the same things about them, but I want us to do well, I want all of our players to be at the top of their game. A few of the players have come out and said they owe the fans and they probably do, to be fair.
“But they’ve got to try and control the emotions because it is a big game, a big European game – probably the biggest game the Europa League has ever had.
“There are going to be all eyes on it, so the players do really need to control their emotions; we don’t want silly cards or silly red cards because we want to be on top of our game with full-strength team.”
Enhanced odds: Get 7/1 on Liverpool to beat Man Utd
Liverpool are unbeaten in eight European games this season (W3 D5), and have not lost in six Uefa home matches (W3 D3). They have not lost in eight Europa League home fixtures (W5 D3) since a 3-2 defeat by Udinese Calcio in the 2012/13 group stage.
United’s record in six Europa League matches to date is W2 D0 L4 (W1 D0 L2 at home – W1 D0 L2 away).
