Liverpool ended a four-game losing run against Manchester United on Thursday night thanks to an emphatic 2-0 victory in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

England striker Daniel Sturridge broke the deadlock from the penalty spot before Roberto Firmino finished from close range in the 73rd minute.

Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana wasted opportunities to extend the home side’s lead ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford next Thursday.

Marouane Fellaini was fortunate to escape a second booking after he appeared to elbow Emre Can in added time on Merseyside as Liverpool secured a commanding first leg lead.

The Red Devils are in action against West Ham United in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, while Liverpool have a free schedule until the return leg next Thursday.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the Liverpool squad after a memorable European night at Anfield.
