The Brazil international suffered an injury during Liverpool’s League Cup final defeat by Manchester City last month.
Lucas was one of the few Liverpool players to come out of the Wembley showpiece with real credit after an impressive performance in an unorthodox centre-half position.
The South American isn’t expected to feature against the Red Devils or Southampton later this month following his injury setback.
But the 29-year-old, who missed his spot-kick in the penalty shootout against City, has set his sights on a return to action in early April.
“I’m progressing very well. I’m really happy with the way it’s going,” Lucas is quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.
“I’m aiming that after the international break I’ll be close to coming back and hopefully playing a big part in the last part of the season.”
Liverpool were 2-0 winners against United thanks to goals from England striker Daniel Sturridge and Brazilian Roberto Firmino either side of half-time at Anfield.
The Reds make the return trip to Old Trafford for the second leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday night.
