The Belgian centre-half has been a regular fixture in the north London side’s first team this season and has made 29 top-flight appearances for the Lilywhites to help them up to second place in the Premier League table.
The defender has also chipped in with three goals and two assists as he has established himself as one of Tottenham’s key players.
And former Southampton man Le Tissier feels that Alderweireld has not been receiving enough credit for his impressive performances for the north London side.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Le Tissier said: “I’m going with somebody who has been magnificent and transformed the Tottenham defence from their weakness to the best in the Premier League – Toby Alderweireld.
“The improvement has been incredible and it’s no coincidence that Southampton had the second best defence in the Premier League last season. Of all the players Southampton lost over recent years he was the one I was most gutted about.
“He’s a bit of throwback defender, fearless in putting himself on the line, his positional play is brilliant and he’s also very versatile.”
Tottenham are currently gearing up for their crunch Europa League last 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night.
Spurs then take on Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday as they look to keep their title bid on track.
