Michael Owen is cautiously backing Everton to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday evening to heap yet more misery on the Blues.

The west London side were dumped out of the Champions League in midweek after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge in the return leg of their last-16 tie.

The FA Cup represents Chelsea’s last remaining hope of winning a trophy this season, with the Blues currently languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table with nine games left to play.

However, former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen is tipping Everton to seal victory over the struggling Blues at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.

Writing in his column for Colossus Bets, Owen said: “What to make of Everton, who are surely the most infuriating side in the Premier League? They had a penalty to make it 3-0 against West Ham last week, missed it, and then went on to lose the match 3-2. They find new ways of getting beaten at home all the time.

“So it is with some trepidation that I say that I fancy them to beat Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup.

“You can’t argue with Chelsea’s unbeaten domestic run under Hiddink but you can question the quality of some of their football, and I just think Everton will have too much going forward for them.

“And of course Chelsea were in action in the Champions League on Wednesday night, too.

“Everton do have to plug that defence, though, and that is a big concern for their backers.”

Defending champions Chelsea are 10 points adrift of the top four with nine games left to play after a disastrous start to their title defence under Jose Mourinho.
