The Gunners are currently third in the table and 11 points behind leaders Leicester, although the Foxes have played one game more than Arsene Wenger’s men.
Tottenham, meanwhile, underlined their status as genuine contenders for the title by beating Bournemouth 3-0 at White Hart Lane last weekend.
Leicester are currently the favourites to win the title and are five points clear of Tottenham in the table.
However, former Arsenal man Merson is expecting to see Leicester slip up between now and the end of the season, and believes that Spurs are more than capable of ending their long wait for the title this term.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Leicester have blown Arsenal and Manchester City out of the title race. But Tottenham are still coming for them.
“I think there’s a long way to go still. I’ve seen it too many times. I played in Arsenal teams that won the title and we dropped silly points during the run-in.
“Pressure does funny things to you, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Leicester lose a couple of games before it’s over.
“Look at their next three games. They’ve Southampton who are bang in form, Sunderland who are fighting for their lives and West Ham who are one of the toughest teams in the league.
“They might not win any of those games. Spurs go to Anfield next and so long as they don’t lose they will still be in the title race.
“It will still be possible. Leicester will lose to someone along the way. Then we’ll see what happens.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in 2003-04.
