Paul Scholes has admitted that he has been left impressed by Roberto Firmino’s recent performances for Liverpool.

The Brazilian attacker scored the Reds’ second goal as they sealed a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 clash at Anfield on Thursday night.

Firmino has scored eight goals and made seven assists in 25 Premier League games for Jurgen Klopp’s men so far this season.

He has also netted once and set up another in the Europa League for the Merseyside outfit.

And although the former Manchester United midfielder admitted that he took some time to be convinced by Firmino, Scholes concedes that the 24-year-old is an exciting talent.

Speaking on BT Sport after Liverpool’s win over United on Thursday, Scholes said: “I hadn’t been sure about Firmino but this last week he has convinced me. He’s been brilliant.”
