Emre Can has expressed his delight to see Christian Benteke net Liverpool’s winner after Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Belgium international came off the bench after Roberto Firmino levelled for 10-man Liverpool following Joe Ledley’s opener in the English capital.

Liverpool, who had vice-captain James Milner sent off in the second half, sealed three points after Benteke scored the winner from the penalty spot in south-east London.

The Belgium was criticised for going down softly by some former professionals on Twitter, but Liverpool midfielder Can was impressed with Benteke’s match-winning impact from the bench.

Can wrote on Instagram: “What a comeback with 10 man on the pitch!!! Very happy for @christianbenteke performance and goal😁💪👍 #ynwa #liverpool”

Benteke moved to Liverpool in a £32.5m deal from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool’s second most-expensive signing has scored seven goals in 24 Premier League appearances so far this season.
